How do I become more like God? – Part 2

I think one of the most interesting parts of this Genesis story is when the serpent is tempting Eve. His strategy is really eye opening. He appeals to her desire to be more like God.

Genesis 3:4-5 - “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

We all have this desire to please God, to be more like Him. We were created in His image. There is this innate desire to find our worth and value and purpose in Him. The biggest issue, the most critical, significant issue is how we will go about pleasing God and becoming more like Him. Satan knew that if Eve went with his ploy, her whole concept of relating to God would be altered and impacted. It’s really interesting isn’t it? Satan’s first goal may not be to get you off into some dark, secret sin that causes all kinds of problems in your life. Maybe that’s his ultimate goal. But that’s too obvious as an initial strategy. I think his first goal is to get you to approach God from a “knowing good and evil” perspective. Because if he can get you to eat that fruit and live in that tree, then your Christianity will be empty, frustrating, religious, boring, negative, filled with judgment and criticism, and the like. And slowly you will die on the inside.
