This past weekend was awesome. Kingdom Builders on Saturday at Lulu Grille, the second weekend of three morning services and another installment of our series called Parenthood on Sunday morning.
Then, we had a first for our church. In the spirit of our vision, knowing that God has called us to be one church in many locations, we had a Sunday night service downtown at Cafe Soul on South Main Street. It was a great night. We were right in the middle of the historic district, literally a block from the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. The place was packed and we were able to reach some people that would probably never come to our Cordova campus. We’re actually working on three very clear opportunities for campuses - Collierville, Covington and Downtown. We’ve been working on Collierville quite some time and are close to announcing a date when we’ll open that campus (which will be our 2nd campus). The downtown opportunity just recently popped up. I was sharing with an architect about our desire to launch a downtown campus and he connected us with Gary Garland. Gary and his wife Kathy are amazing people with a huge heart for the downtown area. We’re dreaming with them about Life Church Downtown. We’ve met some great people and God is opening some awesome doors for us there. Someone told me that about 27,000 people are living downtown now. It’s really grown and it’s ripe for a church like ours. So…stay tuned!
Also, we kicked off the third season of Damascus Road, our one-year internship program last night. It’s going to be an amazing year with 26 new students. I’m always blown away by the incredible people God sends to us. I know we have a huge plan to launch campuses and plant people around the world, so I guess I shouldn’t be amazed, but I’m thankful that God is getting us ready.

I like these widgets. They are pretty cool. And it was a terrific weekend. Thank you for the some inspirational messages on Parenthood.
Hey Pastors, Leslie and John,
I just wanted to let you know that I thought the downtown service was awesome. Also, as a member of the Life Church at Memphis and now a DR student, I wanted you both to count me in as 100% ready for anything Downtown. And thank God for Gary Garland!!!
“Thanking My God upon every Rememberance of You.”

My Suspicions are true. I suspected that the downtown area near harbor town had a dearth of Good churches. Friends of mine that live there have given validity to that concern. Also, the word from Realtors is that property on North Main area is far less expensive and would accomadate parking and be more accessible to Harbortownians far better than the more expensive property on South Main.
My heart is big Towards Downtown, I pray daily for that area and how God may use our church to help spiritual growth happen downtown.
