Planting a Stake in the Ground

It’s been some time since I gave a building update. As a reminder, we have a 3-point strategic plan that we’re pursuing. We said we believed in the next season of church life we would… (1) Grow to 3000 in weekend attendance (2) Become One Church in Multiple Locations, and (3) Establish Home Base (buy land for our main campus).

Well, as we ran down this path, we realized that before we wholeheartedly pursued #2 and #3, we needed to establish permanence in Cordova. We’ve seen such momentum and growth there. To make a long story short, the door opened again for us to purchase the facility that we’re in right now. A few months ago we started negotiating with the owners, and in just the last week we came to an agreement on price. We’ve received from them a signed letter of intent to sell. If all goes well, we will purchase the entire retail center (everything south of Royal Furniture). It’s basically the whole corner at Dexter and Germantown Parkway – over 100,000 square feet, 2 different buildings, and massive frontage on Germantown Parkway. The great news is, the center has a strong monthly income from existing tenants. Overall, it’s a great opportunity for the church. Here are just a few benefits:

  1. We become owners and get a stake in the ground!
  2. It’s a good financial investment for the church.
  3. It will give us the freedom to expand into the
vacant 16,000 square feet next door.
  4. It triggers the next phase in the strategic plan -
planting a second campus in Collierville.
  5. It also starts us down the path of looking for land
in a growing part of the city for our future home base.

Thanks for praying and standing together. We still need some important things to happen before it’s a done deal. Please pray…

  1. That the property would receive a good, strong appraisal. This is probably the most significant prayer point right now.
  2. The contract is being prepared and the deal becomes legal with a signed contract. We’re believing this will be smooth, fast and uneventful.

We’re almost there… One step closer.

Wow, come on Pastor John, Leslie and Life Church! Your building comes! I am presently in the nation of Burundi with our man, David Briggs. We are in Bujumbura, serving Trinity Church International, a church planted by Pastor Jamie & Lea Peters some years ago. TCI are in the process of building a fabulous building in this city and it’s incredibly exciting. Now I read your great news and we’re over the moon to hear it! We’re with you all the way, standing in faith with you for a fantastic appraisal of the facility. It’s happening indeed! Pastor Don Matheny
