Last Wednesday night I launched a new message series called MERCY – before we knew about the Ted Haggard situation, before we heard the verdict that Saddam would be executed, before the mid-term elections, before Rumsfeld resigned, and before a few other situations that have come at you and me…
What a subject!
I’ve already decided I’m going to turn it into a 6-part series. We only have five more Wednesday nights left of the year (we’re taking off the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and the last two Wednesday nights of the year) and I’m still not sure we can scratch the surface.
If you’re in the Memphis area, don’t miss Wednesday nights @ 7p. Come out and study it with us. If you’re not, take some time and do a little word study in your Bible on mercy. It will get you thinking. One of my favorite phrases is in James 2:13 – “…Mercy triumphs over judgment…” I think judgment probably looks more powerful and maybe even more correct, but mercy is stronger and more enduring. The Message translation says it this way – “Kind mercy wins over harsh judgment every time.”
Who in your life right now needs some mercy from you?

I didn’t understand what mercy was until your question, “Who in your life right now needs some mercy from you” and after this statement, “Jesus always performed His miracles for the relief of suffering humanity.” Sunday morning, I looked at the congregation behind me from where I was seated and was moved with compassion desiring that every need be met and no one leave without experiencing the love and acceptance of God. May we (The Life Church of Memphis) be used to perform His miracles for the relief of suffering humanity. Thank you Pastor John.
I heard you message on Mercy on Sunday 11/12 @ HPC in Baton Rouge. It was great. I never looked at mercy in quite that way before. There are many in my life I need to ask to have mercy on me. Thanks for such a powerful message & for coming to Baton Rouge to share it with us.
I was on vacation from good ‘ol Sheboygan, Wisconsin and was able to join you guys during the mercy series a few weeks ago on a Wednesday Night. The whole service was incredible! The Worship was great as well as the message! It’s so cool to see how God is working in Memphis through you guys. God Bless and hope to see you all again!
