Went to the Memphis Zoo today with the family. It was perfect weather here for it. We had fun. I think Hippos are the craziest looking creatures. Big and fat with thick skin! In fact, their skin is 2 inches thick in some places. I happened to be thinking about a negative deal that I’ve been dwelling on too much lately and I remembered something our teacher in Bible School used to say, “You’ve got to have hippo skin if you want to survive in ministry.” Now, after 16 years in ministry I understand better what that means. I think being thick-skinned means being focused, strong and decisive even when things happen that can hurt. We’re all human, we may get bummed about something, but you just have to shake it off and keep going! Look closely at that face – you think he’s worried about anything?
